RAWCON2000 Wrapup
RAWCON2000 HIGHLIGHTS NETWORKS,
SYSTEMS, COMPONENTS
The 2000 IEEE Radio and Wireless Conference
(RAWCON2000), held in Denver, Colorado, USA on September 10-13, 2000, explored
interdisciplinary aspects of RF technology and wireless communications.
Approximately 250 people from 18 countries took in a program of 44 oral
presentations, 23 poster presentations, a Keynote Address, two tutorial
workshops, and two panel sessions, all accompanied by a technical exhibition.
NORTEL VP AL JAVED SPOTLIGHTS
4G TECHNOLOGY IN KEYNOTE ADDRESS
Al Javed, Vice President and Chief Technology
Officer, Access Networks, at Nortel Networks (Nepean, Ontario) presented
the RAWCON2000 Keynote Address. His presentation Technologies
and Systems for Fourth Generation Mobile Wireless Systems highlighted
the evolution of wireless networks to an all-IP architecture as well as
the new technology that is needed to enable data rates 10 times faster
than 3G technology. The presentation is available in pdf format (1.6 MB).
RAWCON2000 IN EE TIMES
COVER STORY ON 4G TECHNOLOGY
Once again, RAWCON was featured on the cover
of Electronic Engineering Times. The September 17, 2000 print edition
included a front-page article entitled AT&T,
Nortel plot '4G' Wireless Nets. The article highlights the RAWCON2000
Keynote Address by Al Javed as well as the work of RAWCON presenters from
Virginia Tech and Stanford.
TECHNICAL SESSIONS FEATURE
PAPERS FROM 13 COUNTRIES
The RAWCON2000 Technical Program featured
oral presentations and poster papers on a single track, in order to maximize
the opportunities for presenters to get feedback on their work. The poster
sessions were well-attended, and this year poster presenters got a chance
to introduce their work to the audience at the oral session in advance
of the poster sessions. Some authors have chosen to make their presentation
materials available at this site; look for links in the Conference
Agenda.
