Focus: RAWCON is a leading interdisciplinary forum for the latest results in wireless technology, highlighting the intersection of RF technology and wireless communication system design, particularly for wireless data systems such as 3G/4G cellular, wireless LAN, ultra-wideband (UWB), and fixed wireless. One recurring theme is the impact of advances at the component level on performance at the system level, and the impact of system-level requirements on component-level design.

Format: RAWCON has a single-track format which enables attendees to attend presentations outside their specialty. The conference is structured to afford ample opportunities for informal interaction during breaks, meals and receptions. The Technical Program features interactive poster sessions in addition to oral presentations. Poster presentations are not scheduled in parallel with oral presentations. The Vendor Exhibit is co-located with receptions and poster sessions.

Sponsors: IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) and IEEE Boston (USA) Section.

Technical Co-Sponsors: National Institute of Standards and Technology (USA), Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (USA)

Corporate Sponsorship: Sponsorship shares are available for catered events (breaks, receptions, and the Banquet) during the conference. Please contact the Exhibit Chair or General Chair for details.

Vendor Exhibit: Monday Aug 20 and Tuesday Aug 21
Number of Exhibitors: 10-15

Attendees: The primary RAWCON audience is a cross-section of technologists in wireless research and development from around the world. The technical specialties of the attendees span the range from active and passive components to antennas and propagation to system architecture and performance, and this range of interests creates the interdisciplinary nature of the forum. The tables below show some data on attendee demographics (average of data from 1999 and 2000). The average total attendance at RAWCON has been approximately 245.

Press Coverage: The RAWCON Keynote Address and portions of the program were covered on the front page of the print edition of EE Times in 1999 and 2000. Trade press participation at the conference has included RCR Wireless, Microwave Journal, Applied Microwave and Wireless, and RF Design.

History: RAWCON evolved from the Wireless Communications Conference (held in 1996 and 1997 in Boulder, CO), which was founded by Roger B. Marks (NIST). The inaugural edition of RAWCON was held in Colorado Springs, CO in 1998. The conference moved to Denver in 1999 and 2000, and has relocated to Boston, MA for 2001.
