"Profitability Drivers for Wireless Broadband Access"

The recent advent of IEEE 802.xx wireless technologies has brought broadband access rates so far unmatched by 2G/3G cellular technologies, though much more limited in coverage; and has ever since prompted questions on how cellular and IEEE 802.xx technologies will coexist in the future. Far from resolving these issues, the current standardization initiatives to endow on one hand IEEE 802.xx technologies with mobility for increased coverage, and to push on the other hand the access rates of cellular technologies up to the Gbps in the next evolution to B3G and 4G actually sustain more concerns on whether these technologies will compete or complement each other. As the outcome of this debate could have a significant impact on both the research community and the industry as a whole, this workshop will provide future perspectives on this challenging issue from different view points, hopefully unveiling a clearer horizon for research and development activities in the telecommunications field .
