RWS 2010
Invitation from the Technical Program Chair
The technical program committee has put together an exciting technical conference for this years Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS) with many new initiatives that will reform the conference going forward to future years. The first change that was made this year was to start two day session tracks on “RF Power Amplifiers” and on “Sensors and Sensor Networks” and a one day session track on “Biomedical Applications of Microwave Systems.” These are actually mini-conferences that have their own chairs and technical review committees, but they are an integral part of the RWS, which allows everyone to attend these mini-conferences and the RWS sessions for a single registration fee. These mini-conferences will become a permanent part of the RWS, so the RWS will really be four conferences covering all aspects of wireless applications and systems for the price of one. In addition, the RWS will now be the home conference for RF Power Amplifiers; Sensors and Sensor Networks; and for Biomedical Applications of Microwave Frequency Systems. Second, we have added two focused sessions on Digital Signal Processing for Wireless Systems in response to requests for more emphasis on this topic that is critical for cognitive and software defined radio systems and many other applications. The third change that was implemented this year is a series of talks by distinguished lecturers on Monday, allowing everyone to hear some of IEEE’s best speakers talk about a range of topics related to wireless systems. Finally, Sunday afternoon is set aside for workshops, allowing everyone to arrive Sunday morning (or complete your IMS TPC reviews Sunday morning) and then attend one of three workshops to kick-off the week.
Besides these new initiatives, the RWS still has the traditional, excellent range of sessions covering all topics related to wireless components, systems, and networks. To fill these sessions, we accepted 164 papers from the 228 that were submitted; I thought that the quality of the paper submissions was very high this year and I am sure that you will enjoy them. In addition, we invited 11 speakers to provide an overview of the state of the art or more in-depth presentations on critical topics. Lastly, each day ends with a panel session to give you the opportunity to take part in a livelier, informal discussion if you are too overwhelmed to attend another session of technical papers.
I hope that you have the opportunity to attend the Radio and Wireless Symposium and contribute to the growth of the conference and to the field of wireless systems. We have put together an excellent program and we only require your participation. Thank you.
